UFTAN Aims and Objectives
 
The aims and objectives of the Association shall be to advance the study of French and the diverse aspects of it in Nigerian Universities in particular, and in the entire country in general, by
  1. Constituting an important forum for intellectual discourse and exchange of information, knowledge and ideas among University French Teachers, through the organisation of conferences, workshop, and seminars;
  2. Publishing journals, books, essays, etc., in French Studies in cognate statutory bodies;
  3. Ensuring the proper representation of the French teachers at professional meetings at both national and international fora;
  4. Co-operating with individuals and corporate bodies with similar objectives outside Nigeria, and,
  5. Engaging in such other activities as will enhance the realisation of the above stated objectives.
 
Membership
  1. There shall be four categories of members: Regular Members, Associate Members, Honorary Members and Corporate Members.
  2. Any person teaching any area of French Studies in any Nigerian University may become a Regular Member on the payment of stipulated dues.
  3. Associate membership is open to individuals not involved in the teaching of French in Nigerian Universities but are desirous of identifying with the objectives of the Association.
  4. Honorary membership shall be accorded to individuals who are not Regular or Associate members but who contribute or have contributed in a significant manner to the advancement of French Studies in Nigeria. such persons shall be recommended by the Executive Committee to the Annual General Meeting  (AGM). The total number of Honorary Members shall not exceed 5 percent of the Regular Members and not more than two may be elected each year.
  5. Any corporate body desirous of identifying with the aspirations of the Association may be accepted as a Corporate Member on the recommendation of the Executive Committee to the Association at an Annual General Meeting (AGM).
  6. Only Regular Members may vote and hold office in the Association.
  7. all members shall receive the regular publication of the Association.
 
Meetings and Conference
 
1.   Annual General Meeting (AGM)
 
i)        There shall be an Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association on the final day of the Annual Conference.
ii)        Voting at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) shall be by secret ballot unless otherwise decided by the majority of members present.
iii)        The Annual General Meeting (AGM) shall set up the following standing committees:
a)        Publications Committee
b)        Welfare Committee
c)        Fund Raising Committee
 
2.   Annual Conference
 
i)        There shall be an Annual Conference of the Association.
ii)        The Annual General Meeting (AGM) shall determine the theme, time and place of the Annual Conference of the Association.
iii)        The members of the Association who are resident in or nearest to the location where   the Annual Conference shall take place shall constitute a Local Organising Committee (LOC), which shall be  responsible for organising the Conference.
 
3.   Executive Committee Meetings
 
i)        The Executive Committee shall meet as often as necessary, but at least once between two Annual General Meetings (AGMs) of the Association.
ii)        The Committee shall decide the manner of voting and other procedures at the meetings.
